How Task Masters verification works

One badge, one meaning. This page says exactly what it covers — and spends longer on what it does not, because that is the part that matters before you let somebody into your home.

The short version

A professional showing a Verified Business badge on Task Masters has submitted their business registration documents, and an administrator reviewed them and found they appeared to correspond to a real, registered business.

Task Masters does not screen professionals. The badge is not a criminal background check, an identity check, a licence verification, proof of insurance, a quality assessment, or an endorsement — and no professional on this site, badged or not, has been background-checked by us.

How a professional gets the badge

  1. 1

    Only a business account can apply

    The application form is open to professionals registered as a business. Individual accounts cannot apply and never carry the badge.

  2. 2

    They send their registration details

    The legal name of the business, optionally its EIN and website, and between one and three supporting documents — typically a business licence, an EIN letter or an insurance certificate.

  3. 3

    A person reads them

    The documents go to a private store that only administrators can open, and a member of our team reviews them by hand. Nothing about this step is automatic, and the badge cannot be bought on its own.

  4. 4

    The badge appears, or it does not

    If the documents appear to correspond to a real, registered business, the badge is approved and shows on the profile and in search results. If they do not, the application is rejected with a reason and the professional can correct it and reapply.

What the badge means

At the time of review, the documents submitted to us appeared to correspond to a real, registered business. That is the entire claim. We may withdraw a badge at any time, and its presence or absence creates no obligation on our part.

What the badge does not mean

Six things people reasonably assume a badge covers. None of them are covered.

A criminal background check
We do not run one, on anybody, ever. Neither does anyone on our behalf.
An identity check
We do not confirm that the person who turns up is the person named on the documents.
A licence verification
Where a trade requires a state or municipal licence, we do not contact the licensing board or confirm the licence is current.
Proof of insurance
A professional may send an insurance certificate as one of their documents. We do not confirm the policy is in force, nor that it covers your job.
A reference or quality check
We do not contact past customers, inspect work, or assess whether a professional is any good.
An endorsement
The badge is not a recommendation by us, and it says nothing about whether a professional is suitable to work in your home, with your children, with vulnerable adults, or with your animals.

What you should check yourself

Because we do not screen anybody, the checks that matter for your job are yours to make. What that involves is your decision, and it depends on the work. Customers commonly:

  • ask for a licence number and verify it with the state or municipal licensing board;
  • ask for current proof of liability insurance, and confirm it covers the work;
  • ask for references from recent jobs, and call them;
  • meet the professional before the first visit;
  • get the scope of work and the price in writing before work begins;
  • arrange their own background check through a licensed screening provider, where the job involves children, vulnerable adults, or unsupervised access to a home.

You are solely responsible for your decision to hire any professional and for granting anyone access to your home, property or family. Ratings, reviews, badges and position in search results are not endorsements and are not a substitute for your own judgment.

What we can stand behind: the reviews

A review on Task Masters can only be written by a customer whose booking through this site reached completed status. There is no other route to leaving one — no drive-by ratings, no imported reviews, no way to buy one. A professional can reply to a review; they cannot edit it, remove it, or pay to have it removed.

That is the one trust signal on this marketplace that is verified in the ordinary sense of the word, and it is why the site calls them verified booking reviews rather than calling the professionals verified.

Common questions

Does TaskMasters background-check professionals?
No. TaskMasters does not perform criminal background checks, identity verification, driving-record checks, reference checks, licence verification or insurance verification on any professional, verified or otherwise. Section 6 of our Terms says so in the same words. If a background check matters for your job — anything involving children, vulnerable adults, or unsupervised access to your home — arrange one yourself through a licensed screening provider before the work starts.
What does the Verified badge actually mean?
It means one thing: at the time we reviewed them, the business documents submitted to us appeared to correspond to a real, registered business. It carries no other claim.
Can a professional buy the Verified badge?
No. The badge is granted by an administrator who reviews the registration documents submitted, and no payment substitutes for that review. Applying is free and open to any professional whose account is registered as a business, including on the free plan.
What should I check myself before hiring?
Ask for a licence number and check it with your state or municipal licensing board. Ask for current proof of liability insurance. Ask for references and call them. Get the scope of work and the price in writing before work begins. Meet the professional before the first visit if the job puts them in your home unsupervised.
Can a badge be taken away?
Yes. We may withdraw a badge at any time, and its presence or absence creates no obligation on our part.
