About gardener services on Task Masters
Gardeners and lawn care providers maintain lawns, planting beds, shrubs and other parts of the yard. Some focus on mowing and edging, while others offer plant care, pruning and seasonal planting. Match the service to your outdoor space rather than assuming every visit covers the whole yard. For regular maintenance or a one-time cleanup, agree on the areas included, the tasks for each visit and whether plants, mulch and debris removal are priced separately.
What is usually included
- Lawn mowing, edging and trimming around obstacles
- Weeding beds and pruning suitable shrubs and hedges
- Planting flowers and shrubs and applying mulch
- Seasonal leaf removal and garden cleanup
- Recurring lawn and planting-bed maintenance tailored to the property
What affects the price
- Maintained area, bed density, slopes and equipment access
- Visit frequency and the amount of overgrowth at the first visit
- Plants, mulch and other materials supplied
- Debris volume, hauling fees and additional seasonal tasks
How to choose
- Ask which tasks each visit includes and how seasonal work is scheduled
- Look for experience with your plants, lawn type and local growing conditions
- Confirm any credentials required for proposed pesticide treatments
- Agree on debris handling, property access and what happens when weather delays a visit
Frequently asked questions
How often should the lawn be mowed?
Base the schedule on grass growth, lawn type and weather. Weekly visits may suit active growth, with less frequent mowing when growth slows. The usual guideline is to remove no more than one-third of the grass blade in a cut, using a height appropriate for the grass.
Does regular garden maintenance include debris removal?
It depends on the agreement. Clippings may be left on the lawn, placed in your yard-waste bin or hauled away. Large cleanups, branches and seasonal leaf collection can require a separate charge. Ask where debris will go and whether disposal fees are included.
Can a gardener help with plants that keep dying?
A gardener with plant-care experience can assess watering, drainage, light and plant suitability. Persistent problems may need soil testing or advice from a local extension service. Ask for an assessment before buying replacements; replacing the plant alone may leave the underlying problem unresolved.
